Implant-supported fixed and overdenture solutions

A PMMA temporary prosthesis is a lightweight acrylic restoration fitted to the implants immediately after the surgical stage and worn until the implants have fused with the bone. It means the patient does not have to go without teeth during healing: eating, speaking and smiling are possible from the first days.

PMMA, or polymethyl methacrylate, is light and easy to work with. Low weight matters during healing because it reduces the load on fresh implants.

Why a temporary prosthesis is needed

Lets you eat and speak normally throughout the healing period.
Protects the surgical site and helps the gums heal into the right shape.
Acts as a trial version — the shape and bite of the final prosthesis are refined from it.
The light material loads healing implants less than zirconia would.

Materials and fabrication

The prosthesis is milled or cast from PMMA following a digital model or impressions. Where needed, the structure is reinforced with a metal framework. The material is easy to adjust chairside — the bite can be corrected, the length changed or a fracture repaired, which is a considerable advantage during healing.

Treatment steps

Preparation. The prosthesis is planned before surgery, based on the planned implant positions.
Fitting. Usually within a few days of implant placement.
Adjustment. Bite and pressure points are refined over the first weeks.
Wear. The prosthesis is worn for 3–6 months until the implants have integrated.
Replacement. It is then replaced with the final zirconia prosthesis.

Care and durability

PMMA is softer than zirconia and wears faster, which is why it is intended for temporary use. During healing, avoid hard and sticky food, clean the prosthesis and gum line carefully, and attend check-ups as scheduled. If the prosthesis breaks or starts to feel loose, contact us straight away — it can usually be repaired at the same visit.

Hybrid prosthesis on a titanium framework

An acrylic implant prosthesis on a titanium framework — strong, lighter than zirconia and easy to repair. Suits a long-term temporary or a more affordable fixed solution. From €1,000.

Implant-supported overdenture

A removable denture anchored to two to four implants so it stays firmly in place. More affordable than a fixed prosthesis, and the patient can take it out to clean it.
