A hybrid prosthesis combines a titanium framework with an acrylic tooth section. The titanium gives the structure its rigidity and carries the chewing load, while the acrylic forms the teeth and gum section. The result is a strong solution that is lighter than a zirconia prosthesis and considerably more affordable.

The main practical advantage of a hybrid prosthesis is repairability: if a tooth wears or fractures, it can be replaced without remaking the whole structure. With a zirconia prosthesis, similar damage usually means making a new one.

Materials and fabrication

The framework is milled or cast from titanium, which is biocompatible and corrosion-resistant. Acrylic teeth are attached to it and a gum-coloured acrylic section is modelled to restore a natural gum line. The acrylic can be polished and adjusted later, which makes the prosthesis flexible to maintain.

Treatment steps

Impressions. Precise implant-level impressions are taken.
Framework try-in. The fit of the titanium framework is checked.
Tooth set-up. Shape, shade and bite are tried in.
Finishing. The acrylic section is produced and polished.
Fitting. The prosthesis is screwed to the implants and the bite adjusted.

Care and durability

Acrylic wears faster than zirconia and can discolour over time, particularly with coffee, tea and smoking. Clean the prosthesis daily with an interdental brush and water flosser, and attend professional hygiene twice a year. A worn tooth section can be renewed if needed without replacing the whole structure.
